Doom: The Dark Ages locks a slice of the action behind a sadly all-too-common marketing deal

Xbox and Bethesda have announced a freshly-baked tie-in to celebrate the launch of Doom: The Dark Ages. The two publishers have a long history of working on product tie-ins that become available for a limited time to coincide with the launch of their biggest games, and Doom is no different.

This time, Xbox is teaming up with Prince St. Pizza to deliver a special pie to hungry players, and give them a unique skin for their troubles to use in the game.

If you’ve never heard of Prince St., we don’t blame you. It’s a chain that mainly operates in North America. Between now and June 15, Prince St. Pizza locations across the United States, and Toronto, Canada will be selling the incredibly well named Hellfire Pepperoni.

The pizza is topped with smoked mozzarella, spicy marinara, pepperoni, habaneros, and a drizzle of hot honey. It even comes in a limited edition box sporting The Dark Ages’ cover art, which actually looks pretty neat.

It wouldn’t be a tie-in without something in-game, too, so you also get the Ranger Doom Slayer skin, and a one-month trial of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (only available to new members). Seeing as Doom: The Dark Ages is a Game Pass launch, you basically get to play the game for free for a month with your pizza.

As for the skin, Xbox said it’s a “timed exclusive”, which means it will show up in some other way after the promotion ends. If you really care about having all tie-in skins, you should wait to see if it’s going to be easier to obtain that one once the exclusivity period ends – perhaps Xbox will even give it to everyone for free.

While you wait for the game to launch, you should definitely also read our Doom: The Dark Ages review, because this may not quite be the game you expected it, especially coming after Doom Eternal.
