Dune Awakening’s final beta has gone well, hitting a peak of nearly 40,000 worm-lovers over the weekend

Dune Awakening hosted its final beta over the weekend, and after opening the flood gates to all those who pre-ordered – as well as bringing in a bunch of streamers to show off Funcom’s survival MMO – the game popped off on Steam. At its peak, it hit close to 40,000 concurrent players!

As seen on SteamDB, a data analytics websited dedicated to the biggest gaming platform on PC, the game hit a peak of 37,889 players on Saturday, then coming close to that same impressive figure the following day with a respectable 36,737. For a closed-off beta only open to people who have already spent money pre-ordering Dune Awakening, that’s not too shabby at all.

It may well hint towards substantial player figures when the game launches. Again, this wasn’t an open beta – Funcom announced it was opening the beta to those who pre-ordered the game on Friday evening, which led to a huge leap from around 17,000 to the aforementioned 37,000. One can assume those who jumped in over the weekend aren’t fairweather – rather those who have already accepted that the game will be something they’ll be playing next month or at least they’re already keen to play.

Add on top of that the paid influencer marketing bump! According to Streamcharts, a website dedicated to hosting data on the most popular games streamed on Twitch.tv, and we can see the game caught some pretty decent attention (especially for sponsored content). It was ranked 20th over the past seven days, hitting 3,170,605 hours watched in just that three day span. To compare, Marvel Rivals managed 4,154,738 hours watched across seven days. More than double the time for a mere 1,000,000 hours watched.

That’s a lot of numbers to chuck at you, but the long and short of it is that the Dune Awakening weekend play test looks to have been a success. This is great news for Funcom and fans of the game, as it provides a decent amount of momentum for the full launch on June 10 (or June 5, for deluxe edition owners).
