GTA 6 trailer two heats up to deliver nearly half a billion views in a day, and it’s pulled off another streaming stonks miracle for an 80s hit
Well, that latest GTA 6 trailer has done it again. Rockstar’s revealed the view numbers trailer two has pulled in across all platforms during its first day. Over 475 million.
The publisher revealed this info to The Hollywood Reporter, because let’s face it, you would want to boast about stats this gaudy.
To put that views in 24 hours number – which again is just under half a billion – GTA 6’s first trailer pulled in 93 million views in the same timeframe following its release in late 2023. Though, that last bit does come with the big caveat of trailer one being YouTube exclusive, meaning it had far less platforms it was racking up eyeballings on right out of the gate.
As of writing, trailer two has racked up just over 84 million views on YouTube along since it delayed, meaning it’s still got a fair way to go to match the 255 million views trailer one’s racked up on that platform alone in its year and a half lifespan to this point.
Trailer two’s already at close to half of it’s predecessor’s YouTube comment total, though, having racked up 437,000 to trailer one’s just over a million to date. As you’d expect, most of them are people conveying that their socks have been blown skyward by the trailer.
One thing they do have in common is sending the number of Spotify streams for an 80s tune through the roof. Last time it was Tom Petty’s 1989 banger ‘Love is a Long Road’, this time it’s been ‘Hot Together’, which The Pointer Sisters belted out in 1986 and has seen an obscene 182,000% increase in its plays on the streaming service since featuring in the trailer. Here’s hoping the royalty checks match the gaudy numbers.
“Music has been synonymous with the series since the very beginning, so it’s great to see fans both new and established connecting with an iconic track in this way,” Spotify global head of editorial Sulinna Ong said of the surge in a statement to THR, adding that GTA “cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else.”
In case you’ve been wondering, Rockstar’s also recently confirmed that trailer two “was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes”. So, it seems the game will have a shot of looking as good when you play it as it does here – assuming your hardware can deliver like whichever PS5 the studio was using.
If you ask one ex-Rockstar animator, the lighting is a big factor in trailer two looking this good, and he’s pretty certain the game’ll end up being worth whatever it costs to buy.
