It’s not just the gamers who are loving Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the soundtrack has just hit #1 on Billboard’s Classical Album Charts

It’s becoming increasingly clear with each passing week that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the most beloved games of 2025 so far. It sold over two million copies in under two weeks, and has been getting nothing but acclaim from players and critics alike.

It even managed to break into the mainstream, prompting French President Emmanuel Macron to hail it as “a shining example of French audacity and creativity.” But its rise to prominence isn’t just stopping there.

One of the key reasons why Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been so well-received has been its ever-present, mournful and bittersweet soundtrack. It’s not a stretch to say that music is a core pillar of the game’s way of telling its story, but it’s resonant enough to stand on its own outside of it.

All that has lead the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 soundtrack to claim the top spot on Billboard’s Classical Album Chart, as well as the Classical Crossover Album Chart. Billboard’s weekly rankings reflect global popularity of music across various genres, and the data is based on sales and music streaming.

In this case, the soundtrack for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has achieved over 18 million track streams since its release on April 24. The soundtrack is made up of a whopping 154 tracks, making for 8 hours of music.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Sharing this adventure with you is an unforgettable joy,” said composer Lorien Testard. “Thank you for playing and making our dreams come true.”

You can buy a digital copy of the soundtrack online, and it’s available for streaming, of course. There’s a physical version in the works from Laced Records, details of which will be announced at a later date.

Though rare, video game soundtracks have actually managed to chart pretty highly on Billboard in the past. Even as far back as 2012, when the Halo 4 soundtrack was the first to break the top-50. Game music has been getting wider and wider recognition since. In 2019, Cuphead’s soundtrack made it all the way to the top of Billboard’s Jazz Charts.
