Dune Awakening’s latest dev video shows off faction-specific bases, which look far nicer than the bland boxes we’ve built in the beta

Another day, another official Dune Awakening dev video, this time highlighting the base building system. While the basics of base building is something we’ve already seen a lot about, we do get further insight on the late game faction-specific building options for all your Harkonnen and Atreides lovers out there.

The video itself, which you can watch below, covers the whole construction process. Starting with the first base you’d build simply to save yourself from sandstorms. Then, after you lock in your alliance with one of the two major factions, new building options are available to you. As shown in the video, these bases look vastly different from each other depending on which side you’ve picked.

So why is this sort of thing a cool thing to see? Well, there’s the obvious ability for player expression that faction-specific base customisation allows for. I can say with the utmost certainty that if your cliffside base is Harkonnen and your neighbour has a slightly cooler house with Atreides colours it’ll p**s you off. That’s the whole idea. The ability to express your loyalty to a side in the war over spice against other players is key to the immersion.

That’s one thing which Dune Awakening appears to be focusing on that other MMOs have pulled back from a bit. World of Warcraft is the most legendary example, a game that used to be all about Alliance vs Horde dynamics before breaking down the barriers between the two sides. A more convenient experience sure, but one undoubtedly with less organic character.

Let us know what sort of base you’ll build, and more importantly, what faction you’ll be siding with when Dune Awakening launches later this year.
